Title: Snowdrop days at Evenley Woodland garden, Northamptonshire, UK
Post by: pontus on February 17, 2013, 11:39:09 AM
Hello Everyone,

The snowdrop days at my friend Tim Whiteley's Evenley woodland garden in Northamptonshire are now underway. Tim has a fabulous galanthus collection, and superb large stands of some hybrids, especially Sam Arnott and Brenda Troyle, all in a superb woodland garden setting. There is also the possibility to walk round with Tim as a guide, who is an expert on the plants he has been planting in his wood over almost 30 years. I personally think that walking round evenley wood looking at plants with Tim is one of life's joys!

more info can be found on his website here :

http://www.evenleywoodgarden.co.uk/ (http://www.evenleywoodgarden.co.uk/)

it is easilly acessible by train and car, and there is usually warm soup available if you come at the snowdrop weekends.

there is also teh possibility of purchasing a few potted snowdrops freshly dug and repotted the day before the sale by his head gardener Mike.

for more info on evenley wood itself, you can also watch this short film evenley wood throughout the seasons :

where snowdrops feauture as well.

Snowdrops here in switzerland are still under snow...spring still feels very far away here!

I wish I was closer as that looks a lovely place for an afternoon wander.   :)

A lot of us enjoyed the garden after the Gala in 2011.  A very nice place for a weekend walk.

Lovely pictures Brian, I'd like to get there sometime but already have 4 snowdrop events this week. This is a garden I've never heard of before so thanks for putting it on my radar.

I visited Evenly Wood to see the snowdrops about four years ago and really hated it.  As I recall, you would walk through a bare woodland and every so often you would find a large square patch of a particular snowdrop cultivar laid out in regularly-spaced clumps.  It was the utter antithesis of a naturalistic planting despite the woodland setting.  Sorry Pontus, and sorry to your friend Tim Whiteley but that was my reaction.  Perhaps it has changed now?
