What a nice piece of film. I can see how a man who likes to cook would develop a real interest in Salvias. I think the pollination process is fun for many to learn about.
Isn't it fun how he grows the purple, almost black tomato with the darkest salvias!
I have learned a bit about Frank from conversations with Hans - it is an interesting story......
Hans has known Frank for some time – he worked formerly in Hans and Barbara's favorite nursery for perennials : Ewald Hügin http://ewaldhuegin.com/ (http://ewaldhuegin.com/)
Hans bought his first Salvia Royal Bumble from Frank.
A few years ago Frank had the possibility to use a part of a Nursery for his own Salvia propagation
but was not able to earn enough to live from his own nursery …so he works few days in the week in a nursery for trees : http://vonderstrass.tsehringer.de/ (http://vonderstrass.tsehringer.de/)
Hans and Barbara know this nursery too and buy there often - and inside is a very nice restaurant :

All sounds rather good, doesn't it? I think it's good to learn a bit more about nurseries outside the UK!
Hans advises me that Frank, as yet, has no lists and he send no plants abroad … though perhaps that may come in time ... meantime his nursery is only open Friday afternoon or by appointment - but those in the area may think it worth a visit.

And a little bit of Frank lives on here in the shape of the Royal Bumbles from the seed that Hans sent me! This is easily my favourite of the microphylla types, a true gem...............

Through nothing more than coincedence I planted 'Nachtvlinder' (Franks creation) alongside it. This photo shows what a (lovely) thug of a plant it is as it mugs off 'Royal Bumble'...............

I see from Franks website that he has S.libanensis. Lucky sod! That has been on my wish list for a while now.
As an aside I grew a similar tomato in the greenhouse - wonderfully sweet but less acidic/sharp taste than the more regular red forms. Recommended!
