Dianthus? I/D
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:29:13 AM »
I think it is Dianthus deltoides, but is that correct? I know that it is propagated from a wild plant; no garden cultivar or hybrid or whatever. In a few months, the flowers wil tell, but I'm very curious ::)

Thanks, Hans

...and two more pictures of the same clone but growing in a large tray. The flower bud (very early for D.deltoides?) looks more like a Cerastium? ???

Anyway, suggestions are very welcome!

Hello,
I think your plant is not a D. deltoides.
I took two pictures of my D. deltoides. The buds are diffrent too.
Your plant can be a Cerastium, but it's not sure.

Thank you, Pal.

I see the difference an also a serrate leaf margin and less or no hairs on the leaves. So my plant  is not D. deltoides. However, it grew in a habitat very specific for D. deltoides (even on top of an ant hill which is specific for deltoides), and I checked all the other species possibly occurring in that habitat. But I did not find anything alike. Still I was wrong. Now I'll check the flowers when they're out and see what it is.
I guess it should be Cerastiumor something like that. I'll post once I know.
