Janis shares many photos with us in the forum and this thread shows images from his bulb collection in March 2021. (The crocus are shown in the Crocus section.) The comments are from Janis.

Janis Ruksans plant collection -mostly bulbs March 2021

The earliest of daffodils always is this Narcissus bulbocodium of unknown origin - from where it came in my collection, I have no idea, but I'm growing it for very long time and for years it grew even outside, although then bloomed less abundantly.

Is it some succulent? No, Bellevalia cyanopoda from Iran comes out.

According to the last publication, this one must be labeled as Iris popovii (according to the place, where it was collected), but I'm not sure about correctness of identification, although name was given by Tony Hall and Arnis Seisums.

Iris rosenbachiana from Harangon

Another colour form of Iris rosenbachiana Harangon with white anthers.

Colchicum szovitsii Tivi from Armenia has so large flowers, that sometimes I'm doubtful - is it szovitsii at all. Good grower in outside garden where is selfsowing.

Colchicum wendelboi Iran - from Jim Archibald

Collected as Narcissus munnozii-garmendiae from Portugal, Porto de Sentinele, on rocks at mountain top. Could be N. confusum.

Corydalis hrcana 16IRS-082 - darkest red, known from one gorge in Iran, doesn't like complete drying out in summer.

Corydalis hyrcana- very rare species from Iran with perennial tubers, , so can be multiplied only by seeds. I have 2 tubers and tried to pollinate it this season.

This one was grown up from seeds received as Corydalis malkensis -it's not - should be white and with large flowers.

Earliest between Erythronium dens-canis is form from vicinity of Lipcha in Eastern Karpathian mountains, W Ukraine.(22 march)

Erythronium dens-canis from Rožňava in eastern Slovakia ( probably! )

This year the first Fritillaria which started blooming is this F. zagrica from Iran.

Fessia - was Scilla- hohenackeri WHIR-124 from Iran

Fessia khorasanica - - although in wild it has only one spike, in cultivation number of spikes increase up to 2-3.

Fessia olangensis 16IRS-152 was described and published by me and Dimitry Zubov from Olang gorge in Iran ......

Fritillaria baisunensis - Baisun Tau, Uzbekistan - easy separable from F. bucharica by undulated leaves and black anthers - in F. bucharica anthers are yellow

Fritillaria chitralensis - earliest from imperialis group - can't be grown outside where it comes out too early and always is frost damaged.

Iris aucheri 'Indigo King' This is unusually short this spring-this relates to all I. aucheri forms grown by me this spring- although usually is around 50 cm tall.
