Ranunculaceae 2021
« on: January 29, 2021, 01:46:54 PM »
Adonis amurensis 'Chichibu Beni' with some more flowers open.

Adonis amurensis 'Fukurokuju'

From the Adonis in the garden the flowerbuds are pushing up in the soil, I hope the snails leave them alone.

Very nice Herman.  Do you grow them in pots or in the open garden?

It is a mix of leave compost, seramis and perlite. So I get airy soil.

Herman, thank you for your reply. I talked to Mr. Peters, a German Nursery Man, who used to import Adonis cultivars from Japan, he told me that in Japan Adonis cultivars are grown in pots in Akadama. What is your opinion ?

I don’t use it, but I am not a specialist in Adonis. I believe that it is also used for the soil of special Hepatica japonica. I also don't know if there is much difference between seramis and akadama.

Thank you Herman.  Can you recommend any EU commercial sources?

Ashley, my Adonis come mostly from plants markets or exchanging. Edrom nursery has a good collection for sale.

Thank you Leena. I hope the flowerbuds in the garden survives all the rain that still has to come during  next week.

"Ranunculus crithmifolius has a curious seed feature where pedicels of the ripening fruit bend downwards between the leaves and push into the loose gravelly scree. A check yesterday in one of my specimen pots shows this activity."

Fascinating how ingenious plants can be about getting their  seed sown, isn't  it? !
