In habitat site visit 2011-Greater Buttefly orchid

Platanthera chlorantha to give it it's mouthful of a latin name.  I set off through a localish wood in search of these gems but was starting to wonder if I'd ever find them when, despite the windy overcast conditions, they just seemed to shine out through the darkness.  Two hundred photos later, with most blurred by the wind, I left a happy man.
p.s And joy of joys it rained on the way home.

Thanks for these Steve,
Reminds me of the first time I saw them, quartering a wood with my dad. The way they glow in poor light is quite remarkable. Perhaps something to do with being moth pollinated. Last time I saw them was also many years ago, on open boggy land with the lesser species as well, on Skye.
