SRGC sponsors AGS Young Persons Event
« on: June 16, 2023, 11:52:00 AM »
"The AGS Young Person's Weekend is off to a good start. A great group of people from the UK, Norway and Holland, that have in common a love of alpines, gardening and mountains.
We will start the long weekend with an evening walk up on Helvellyn to look at some of the native alpines here in the Lake District.
It is good to have our friends from Scottish Rock Garden Club take part as they have sponsored this year's event."

First visits of the AGS young Person's event, sponsored by Scottish Rock Garden Club

The AGS Young Person's Weekend is visiting the @rspb Haweswater Reserve today.
First stop at Naddle Farm, where @wildhaweswater manager Lee Schofield and AGS President David Morris introduced the important work they are doing here to preserve the wonderful wildlife present in this corner of the Lake District.
Jo Chamberlain, tree nursery manager, talked to the group about propagating plants sourced in the wild and growing them on for reintroduction.
The Group is  going to visit Mardale next, a project the AGShas been involved in from the very beginning. Mardale Meadow Project aims to restore the native alpine vegetation on the lower slopes of Haweswater Reservoir.

Apart from exploring natural habitats, participants will also have the opportunity to visit gardens and nurseries in the area. Of particular interest will be a visit to Hartside Nurseries where Carole and Ian Bainbridge will run an active workshop on crevice garden building. During the day, they will be showing all the stages involved, from the start to the final top dressing. Carole and Ian are both former presidents of the SRGC, and live and garden in Galloway in south-west Scotland. They have built four crevice beds in their Galloway garden over the last few years.
