I agree with Mark. Such an incredible and very generous gift, I downloaded a copy as soon as it was available.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Ian and Maggi!

I too would like to get a printed copy as would some others on this side of the pond.  I got a reply from our "enterprising forumist" and he and friends went to together to have multiple copies printed.  This, of course reduces the price per copy.  I see that Ian's copyright notice says the book can only be printed for personal use.  For a group order would Ian authorize the printing of multiple copies?  If this venture seems feasible I would "advertise" this offer on the PBS forum and possibly the NARGS forum and take orders charging a bit more than expected cost and then donate any extra to the SRGC forum.

Would Ian authorize such a venture?

Jan,

I am happy for a number of people, who would like to print my book for their personal use, to get together to bring down the printing costs.
It would be good if anyone printing batches in this way would let me know.

I did not want someone to print a batch on a speculative basis and especially I did not want it being used for someone to make money.

I would welcome a printed copy. To print off the electronic version, given the extortionate price of printer ink, would be expensive!

John

The costs that I have heard for having it printed and bound are around £35 per copy less than it would cost if it had been published as a printed book.

Tens of thousands of people read the Bulb Log every week - free -   now tens of thousands of people can have Ian's e-book - free.  That works  for me  and sits rather well with the SRGC ethos of informing and sharing, I think!

I am thrilled with the e-book, but also would love to have a printed copy. My four year old granddaughters really enjoy sitting with me and reading plant books. They're able to tell me the names of many of my flowers when we're in the garden.

As I am also on the other side of the pond, please Jan Jeddeloh add me to the list for the printed version.  :)

I think the e-book format is great. It is so easy of find what you're looking for by using a search function. No more leafing through pages for hours trying to find something you half remember. And so easy to magnify the page to get a closer look at the images. Whilst we all have the option to print a copy, and I dearly love my groaning shelves full of garden books, I'm just as happy to use this as an e-book to refer to on my laptop time and again. A gift to the gardening world, thanks Ian!

Yes I agree with Matt, very convenient in e-book format. I briefly entertained the idea of printing it out but too much paper and ink for the home printer! I have other books as e-books and find it easy to navigate and handy, but we are digital natives in this house.

I agree, Matt. And it is incredibly generous of Ian to share his expertise and photographs.  No one who has not visited the Forum would ever believe the wealth of information and help (and photos) to be found free on its pages.

Believe me Anne, incredible as it may seem, there are still plenty of folk who have yet to discover the amazing resources held on this Forum. Let's keep spreading the word!

I now have also have a printed out copy and I am very pleased at how it comes out, due to the shine of the paper the pictures below do not do full justice but do give an illustration of what you will get if you print it from the PDF.

Ian, that looks great! Did you get it printed by lulu.com or what? It looks like a hardback copy, is it?
