Double Flowered Callianthemum anemonoides

(1/1)

Paul Cumbleton:
This rather attractive double flowered Callianthemum anemonoides appeared among a batch of otherwise normal flowered seedlings. Will be interesting to see if it retains this characteristic or if this turns out to be an unstable one-off.

ruweiss:
Paul,
Congratulations to this beautiful plant. I hope for you, tat it retains
this characteristic.

Jon Evans:
Ten years or so ago, at Blackthorn Nursery, I photographed a plant under the name Callianthemum anemonoides Blackthorn Strain, raised by Robin and Sue White.  Its progeny are now planted out in their rock garden, where they don't much approve of our sometimes damp springs.

Paul Cumbleton:
Jon, your Blackthorn strain pictures show very lovely plants. It's possible my seedlings have something of them somewhere in their background as I did used to have a plant labelled Blackthorn strain. Your photo shows emerging buds that are very dark red-maroon colour on the reverse of the petals. My seedlings also show this, but sadly on opening this colour is only on the reverse and I don't get the lovely pink flowers as in your photo, only white or very faintly pink.
