That's good to know. I can think of  a couple of people who will be interested, even other than those who will already have a copy. ;D

My copy of the World according to Janis, otherwise known as the World of Crocuses, arrived today. Amazing piece of work. The little distribution maps and photos of habit together with superb pics - hundreds of them- make this a must have publication. Thanks Janis for shining a light into all corners to illuminate this beautiful species.

If only there were a similar type of publication written and available for genera such as, for example, Fritillaria!

For the May IRG  from Iran, we discover a new Crocus species  from Iran, described by Jānis Rukšāns and we escape to Rhodes to see orchids and other flowers there, from Gerrit and Iep Eikelenboom

In case readers are on holiday and crave something to read; are rained out of the garden or  seeking a shady respite from the heat - this month's IRG is published early!

This issue has  descriptions of new Crocus species from Dimitri Zubov and Janis Ruksans.
Also news of artist in residence activity at the wonderful Inverewe Gardens on the west coast of Scotland - plus a poem by Lydia Muijen inspired by the garden and the recent  erythronium festival there.

Sorry, but on p. 27- of IRG 90 is mistake. In picture caption instead of Crocus seisumsiana ex Samos – KJGR collections 080, 080-1, 073, 076 Photos Jānis Rukšāns
is written - Crocus seisumsiana ex Chios...

KJGR trip was mostly dedicated to Chios Island, searching for variability of Crocus pallasii, as I supposed that it could be different species (for the cv. 'Homeri'). But variability turned very great. Each population had plants looking close to traditional C. pallasii and plants with deep purple throat as in Cv. 'Homeri'.
There was no spring blooming "annulate" crocus found. Last 2 days we passed on Samos, where was collected samples KJGR-073, 076, 080, 080-1, used for pictures of new species.

We in SRGC are delighted to learn this  most exciting and very pleasant  news from Latvia -Janis' latest  crocus book has been given an award from  the Latvian Academy of Sciences for best achievements in biology and his  book has been  listed in the  honorary list of 10 best publications of Academy members in the year 2017.

A wonderful acknowledgment of the  calibre of Janis'  work -  Janis  must be more than pleased to have these honours.

Well done, Janis - we are not at all surprised at this success!

Ever wondered how serious and dedicated Janis Ruksans is about  his  Crocus collection and the  recording and classification of  his    bulbs?  Have  a  look at this, from Latvian TV, March 2021

And here is an article in English  on Janis - he  says there  are  some  mistakes but  still good to read!

Janis has been very busy, working on the first supplement to his Crocus book - he says " Today my new book goes to printing house! Hope it will be ready before end of February.
Front cover - Crocus marandicus, back cover - Crocus harpkeae at its habitat."
