Holehird Gardens, Windermere, Cumbria
« on: May 15, 2022, 01:58:26 PM »
On Friday morning the plumber was coming some we raced up the motorway to Holehird Gardens, run by the Lakeland Horticultural Society and supported by volunteer gardeners.

1. In the large walled garden area was a "Warm House" full of wonderful Pelargoniums and some other plants that wouldn't survive outside at Holehird.
2. On the back wall was this wonderful Pelargonium named "White Mesh".
3. The third side had more Pelargoniums and the poor mans orchid, Schizanthus.
4.Even the path to the Alpine houses had lovely plants. The bright yellow is an Erysimum.
5. The lower Alpine house has a display of pots first in line Lachenalia latimerae.

 20. Up another level behind the Alpine Houses are mixed beds.

21. A terrific stand of Primula.

22. Celmisia and Rhodo's.

23. On the way back a huge Handkerchief tree but the wind was gusting so much I just managed to get a fraction of it.

All in all a wonderful place. You can get a coffee from a machine but take your lunch you'll need a good few hours to make the most of it.
