Scoliopus bigelowii : plants or seeds in USA
« on: February 23, 2008, 09:11:23 PM »
Hello, I have been contacted by someone who wishes to source seed or plants of Scoliopus bigelowii... he is in the US of A, so I cannot help witha plant and all our seed is sown.
Can anyone suggest an American nursery offering this lovely Trillium relative?

just back from watching a fantastic game of rugby on the box. ;D

Mine is flowering away on the rockery but I've never collected seed of it.

Does that mean you GET seed Anthony but don't bother to collect it? I have a good plant but it never sets seed, though I know others get seed at least sometimes.

Pity about the cricket. Regardless of who wins, the Duckworth-Lewis system in times of rain, is never satisfactory to my mind. Besides no-one knows how it works! :-\ So lets get on with the tests now.

I believe Alf Evans said in his book "The Peat Garden" that he never got seed from Scoliopus bigelowii and we didn't for a while then started tickling them and now they do it themselves. I think in the warmer ??!! springs there are some more insects around.... often times it flowered so early in cold weather that there were no pollinators to help.  Chap asking says he can only find USA source that ships within California :( and he's in Michigan so he may have to wait a while for seed from the UK.
