Thanks again for your announcement Maggi !  :-*

I am pretty sure that it gonna be  a great day and it is also  a pleasure to have those both gentlemen as a speaker.

And note also that that day will be the colors white and blue. And those are the colors of the Scottish flag! ;D

Then it would be nice for all to have one of these to wear........
....but perhaps a little expensive to arrange such jewels ;)

News from our Friends in the Flemish Rock Garden Club about their  next Lecture Day…..

http://www.vrvforum.be/?p=2652

"On January 25, The VRV  again welcomes two top  “home grown” speakers.
The first speaker is very famous in the world of snowdrops . Valentin Wijnen has been a passionate galanthophile since the 90s. In his garden he hosts a unique collection of snowdrops, the largest and most diverse in Belgium . More than 650 named and some 150 unnamed selections are part of his collection.
In addition to the 16 or so new snowdrops that he has named himself, he has  also selected in the past 10 years, along with Johan Mens, some unique varieties of our native snowdrop Galanthus nivalis var scharlockii . He will bring the story of the latest Belgian snowdrops to us. He will take us on a journey through the named and unnamed cultivars that have arisen in Belgium .
The second speaker is known to most, it is Herman Mylemans,  our Gentian Specialist . Anyone who has ever searched for information about gentians will certainly already arrived at his informative website:  http://www.gentians.be/ . He will tell us about the gentians of acaulis group and those of the verna group and teach us how to recognize the difference. Between the two groups Gentiana acaulis is both a group name and a generic term  hence the confusion , in this lecture  Herman will give an insight into this matter. Gentiana verna group and gentian has the same problem for years , a number of features will be discussed .

After these lectures the traditional raffle  will be held. . And then we also bring a toast to the new year and we can enjoy a good chat!"

Today was the big day !!!
A great attendance with two outstanding speakers : Valentin Wynen (Belgian Snowdrops) and Herman Mylemans (Gentians).
The talks were super.... but we did celebrate our 10th anniversary !

No Maggi..... not just one cake !!!

Obviously some liquids were needed to wash this all down...

Not to worry, enough for everybody !

Hearty congratulations to you all ... looks like a magnificent day.  Wish we could have been there, but I was under the surgeon's knife unfortunately. All best wishes to the VRV.

Very inspirational - we always find cakes go down as well or better with visitors to the garden than the plants. We shall have to design some with gentians on the icing!

I firmly subscribe to the opinion that no cake = no celebration !!
Here's an example of some delicious chocolate biscuits  decorated with Edelweiss and Gentian that are appropriate for any celebration of an alpine plant club....   We were eating them here to show solidarity with our Flemish Friends......  ;D ;)
