Title: AUGIS BULBS
Post by: David Nicholson on May 10, 2011, 07:45:19 PM
Last year I ordered some stuff from Augis' Bulbs (Eugenijus Dambrauskas) and would like to do the same this year. Only his 2010 Catalogue is available on-line and he doesn't appear to answer emails-does anyone know anything?

That's what Augis wrote to me three weeks ago.

This season is very late in Lithuania and at present we have a lot of jobs in garden. The December was very snowy (more than 0,8 m snow level on unfrosted soil ) and ved very suitable for rodents - after snow melting in January I have found a lot of holes and remains corms. bulbs, roots on beds of Crocus, Corydalis, Tulipa...Seems that I have lost almost all collection of Autumn flowering Crocus, Siberian Corydalis and much of others... The picture and situation in my garden is very sad. I was forced to stop creation of my website, but I hope to do it in a month or two when I'll know what I have....

Quite a sad situatuion. So I hope that at the end of May or beginning of June his website will be updated and new 2011 catalogue will be published.

Dear me, that is bad news for the poor man to have such damage to his bulbs by the rodents over winter. So much snow over unfrozen ground must have been heaven for the pests.

I have not had plants from Leonid Bondarenko but I have heard from many friends/forumists over the years who are happily growing  plant/ bulbs from him.
There are dozens of references to his bulbs through the forum.

I found his new list online and ordered 10 days ago.
My first e-mail sent in March is still unreplied so
I begged him to confirm my order, but again I didn't get any reply from him.

Dirk's experience is the same.....  ???  :-\
Does anybody know what's going on with him?

 :)

Thomas, I've been ordering from him for four years now and he's very slow in responding to e-mails. I had sent him two e-mails in March and April to ask him when his catalogue would be online...no response. He confirmed my order last week (after 7 days and after asking him again (in another e-mail from another mailaddress)).

He's not a professional nursery-man and he spends a lot of time working in his garden and travelling. I think he confirms orders after he has received the payment.

Thanks Wim - so I will have to send another e-mail and wait. Maybe he's on tour again....

But I won't pay the money until he confirms, that he HAS everything that I want.

Yeah,

I would e-mail him again, but it could be another week before he answers...
And if that doesn't work; I think Zhirair (Boyed) is a friend of him, so maybe you could get his phone number from him?

Has anyone had bulbs from Eugenijus Dambrauskas (website 'Augis Bulbs' ) ?

Also can someone explain how to order from Lithuanian growers with sterling cheques? (Hope that's not a stupid question)
Title: Re: Lithuanian Rare Bulb Garden

Mike

The answer is  - you can't.  You have to transfer funds via your Bank.

You could ask if he will accept Euro notes sent by registered post - this would be cheaper.

Use this service http://www.travelex.co.uk/uk/send-money-now-order.aspx only 99p cheapest method around.  I have used it numerous times.

I have bought from Augis bulb several times, it has always worked well. Payment is done by bank with an EU transmission. There is no charge as long as you pay in Euros, and you do it yourself with your computer.

Ulla

How do we do it with our computer?

I know I can pay using my internet banking, but it still costs me £17 to transfer funds.  he charge cannot be for converting Sterling to Euros

Post by: Ulla Hansson on July 28, 2011, 08:16:46 PM
Augis bulb has all prices in Euro. If you go to your internet banking so choose to do an EU payment. It should not cost more than if you make a payment within the country.
If I understood correctly, it is an agreement within the EU, but only as long as payment is made in Euro
Hope you understand what I mean. I have a little hard to explain it all.

Augis has great collection with many plants. Usually he finish replanting at Christmas, so don't wonder about silence. He simply hasn't time for replies. I have similar situation - still hundreds and thousands to replant... And even for forum only few moments I can spare.

Thanks to the Forum I learnt about Augis Bulbs.

My parcel arrived on Friday and I can say, without fear of contradiction, that the bulbs were excellent - both quality and price.

Friends were here when I opened the parcel and regretted that I had not told them about Augis, as they had ordered the same bulbs from other sources at considerably higher prices.  They will definitely be joining me in ordering next year.

Augis allways is sending his orders, sometimes something late. He has no helpers, working by himself only. This year he has excellent size - far larger bulbs than mine due climate differences.

Augis is not going to issue catalogue this year and sell bulbs. He just wants to have a rest. As he told me, orders take most of his time, and as he doesn't have helpers, there is not enough time left for taking care of the plants. That's what he told me when I spoke to him by phone at the beginning of spring.

The warning came from me, it is serious and I didn't know there were other problems with his website. For a while, it's best not to try it - maybe until we can get a confirmation that everything is OK.
In case it happens again - there is a sort of virus that pops-up  when clicking on the website address (with audio warning) - shut off your computer immediately from the power source.
Trying to shut off the regular way is not working and you're wasting time - the longer you remain connected to the internet the worst.
When you start again the computer, use the safe mode and  through your security software wipe out all the privacy files (so-called) and after that run a complete security scan.

My Lilium x Testaceum arrived on Friday, along with a few other goodies. This is the first time I have seen this cultivar (which dates back to the early 1800s) available, so I jumped at the chance. Bulbs looked very healthy - so good that I risked raising a couple of scales from each of them.

My fritillarias arrived last Saturday.

I planted them the same day. Though I do not have special experience with Fritillarias, I can report that all bulbs were tight and white, no dry or rotten scales (is this the right expression for German "Zwiebelschuppen"?).
The root basis was easy to recognize and the bigger bulbs, f.i. F. stenandera 'Cambridge' had already some thick roots. I had also ordered 20 mixed seedlings of F. crassifolia ssp. curdica and found 23 in the bag.

I'm very content and hope that the Fritillarias will love my garden .  .  .

I received bulbs in Switzerland, a non-EU country, without problem. However, this may be because the Swiss negotiated a deal which gives them the same status (for plant movements) as an EU country. I fear that this topic isn't a high priority for the UK's incompetent "highly skilled" negotiators.
