Title: A Natural Reserve in Southern Germany
Post by: ruweiss on May 28, 2020, 09:14:40 PM
Some days ago we revisited this place, well known by its orchids.
We found many fine plants in this hot and dry region, Orchis purpurea was at is best.

Rudi,
Thank you for this extraordinary report - especially the detection of Dictamnus in the wild must be an incredible esperience.

Beautiful Rudi, a good thing that this place is kept as a Natural Reserve.

Dear friends, many thanks for your friendly comments. The Dictamnus albus is very rare in
Southern Germany and we found it for the first time at this place. A farmer told us, that they
get money from the government for leaving their meadows unmowed until the orchids stop
growing

Reopening this  old  thread  to add these  pictures  from Olga Bondareva of Dictamnus  in the  wild - in  Far Eastern Siberia -and  her  garden.  She emphasises the  capabiltiy  of the  plant  to cause  skin burns  when  handled - a  problem whivh can increase  with  continued  exposure.  For that reason it's  not  a  plant  that  everyone  would want  to encounter, but  it  is  beautiful to enjoy  in photos!

Orchid purpurea is an orchid that also grows further north in the region of southern Lower Saxony on sunny places. They even increase their number and I hope they do in the future. It is very pleasant to discover these plants.
