Title: Snowdrop pollination
Post by: annew on January 27, 2019, 07:44:24 PM
I finally got round to uploading the video of snowdrop pollination. There is no audio. Here it is I hope:

I should say - at the end the image with the seedpod bagged shows the stem cut. DON'T cut the stem - leave it attached to the plant :)

Thanks for sharing that! Are you ok with it if I post a link to your video on my website?

Been testing Anne's method by catching pollen into a small plastic zip lock bag:

I have been collecting snowdrop pollen on Aluminium Foil, as recommended in the video, for years.
I don't tend to store pollen, but use it immediately.

I've just started to get into Tomato breeding, and as a result have been trawling the Web for advice. One suggestion is using black plastic spoons for collecting pollen. This works very well. The spoons are very cheap on Ebay. (I now have more than I'll ever need in my lifetime!)

I'll be trying it on snowdrops next year.
