Title: Virus!?
Post by: gentle_ben on August 21, 2014, 06:14:45 AM
Hi all,
I have a few disturbing signs going on that I suspect are virus, can anyone shed any light on these?

The first is in a Morea, which is forming a mosaic like pattern. Initially I thought it might just be some kind of nutrient deficiency from waterlogging and the cold, but it's not even across the lot.

The second is in Arum dioscoridis which has this variegation forming also. I know that a lot of these Arums can have marbling, but I'm not really sure with this one... Hmmm.

Look forward to any info,

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi Ben, I was wondering, are you a smoker or has anyone who smokes touched your arum? Might sound slightly bizarre but I'm reminded of TMV symptoms by your photograph. I don't know if the host range extends to Araceae, but it is very broad and new susceptible species are being found all the time. I do agree it looks very virusy. Take care handling symptomatic plants as mechanical transmission is a possibility if it is TMV or some other RNA virus.
