I am delighted to report that the Fritillaria Group website has been completely overhauled and re-designed to give it a fresh new look and make it more user-friendly. In particular, there are now proper photo galleries for all the images where you can browse thumbnails which can be clicked on to see a larger image presented in a 'Lightbox' style. Please do visit the new site (which retains the same web address as the old site: www.fritillaria.org.uk (http://www.fritillaria.org.uk)and see what you think.
The site is still being developed, with lots more still to add, particularly text to go with many of the images; we also plan to put online all the back issues of our Journal (issues older than 2 years). This will take some time, but meanwhile I hope that you will all enjoy the new look and find the improved interface more useful.

The Fritillaria Group has been updating its website which always deserves a visit.
And now the Group has a new forum (http://www.fritillaria.org.uk/forum.html) devoted to all things Fritillaria The forum is accessible from any page on the website (www.fritillaria.org.uk (http://www.fritillaria.org.uk)) via the navigation menu at the top of each page.
Anyone can read it, but if you want to make posts you will need to register first – again, this is open to anyone, not just Fritillaria Group members. 8)
Enjoy!
-
Hi Maggie I want to join the Frit group but can I do it on line, thanks so much Mel
-
From the info on their membership page, Mel, it seems the Frit Group expect a membership application to be sent by post to Bob Charman and paid by cheque.
It may be that Paul Cumbleton will be able to give a bit more info on this because as it stands, membership is heavily biased towards those in the UK. I'll ask him.

-
Hi Mel,
It's great that you want to join the Fritillaria Group! Unfortunately we are not able to take online payments. The easiest way for overseas subscribers to pay is to obtain a £10 note and enclose this with your completed application form. Sorry we don't have other options.
Paul

I have recently completed the mammoth task of adding descriptions and cultivation information for every Fritillaria species to the Fritillaria Group website at www.fritillaria.org.uk (ftp://www.fritillaria.org.uk). This information can be found alongside the photos on the image pages. We hope this will now make the website much more useful for anyone trying to find out how to grow a particular fritillary or trying to identify any plants whose identity they are uncertain of. Huge thanks to Bob Wallis for putting together all this information!
-
My word! What a task - but what a great resource to have online. Most impressive, well done Bob and Paul.
Find the info under the images gallery : http://www.fritillaria.org.uk/image-index.html (http://www.fritillaria.org.uk/image-index.html)

The Frit. Group October Meeting ..... 2nd October 2016 - open to members and non-members
[attachimg=1]

Just seen this on Facebook too Maggi - should be a good meeting. These hybrids of Fritillaria imperialis with closely related species are pretty striking plants, especially when seen grown on a field scale by Willem Wietsma! There is a good article in 'The Plantsman' Vol. 11, p. 222, (Dec. 2012) written by Willem Wietsma and Ronald van den Berg.

I'm pleased to let everyone know that a whole lot more back issues of the Fritillaria Group Journal are now available to read and download for free on the Fritillaria Group website, at http://www.fritillaria.org.uk/journal.html (http://www.fritillaria.org.uk/journal.html). Issues No. 22 (Spring 2008) to No. 44 (Spring 2019) are now available. Issues earlier than these may be added in future - but no electronic versions exist of these so they will need scanning from paper copies. That's a long job! Meanwhile, enjoy the wealth of information, articles and pictures in what's there so far.

In IRG 140 August 2021, a new fritillary species from the Fergana Valley, southern Kyrgyzstan, Fritillaria rugillosa (subgen. Rhinopetalum; Liliaceae) is described by Alexander Naumenko and Dimitri Zubov.
Second article is Patagonian Verbenas - Junellia ( part 1) by Martin Sheader, a marine biologist from Southampton, who is known for a great interest in all plants. Dr Sheader has travelled extensively in this part of South America and his book ‘Flowers of the Patagonian Mountains’ is the most comprehensive photographic guide yet published to the area’s diverse and fascinating flora.

Fritillaria rugillosa (Rhinopetalum) Earlier in the year I posted pictures of a Fritillary that at the time was known as aff gibbosa sp nova ( was also in my seed list as this and so please adjust your labels) It has now been described by my friends Alexander Naumenko (discoverer) and Dima Zubov as F.rugillosa - Description can be found on the excellent 'International rock garden on-line magazine' via the SRGC website. Sincere thanks to Alexander for the material that has already allowed me to distribute seed around the world
