Olsynium douglasii - a spring flower I have come to cherish as it has proven itself to be extremely hardy. At least Osynium are unimpressed by deep bare frosts and very dry conditions.
I have got this purple as well as a white variety. Unfortunately I have not so far been able to take seeds...

Hello Mrs Maggie
My garden has an area of about 8. 000 square meters. Collection of plants is about 2,000 species and varieties. Plants collect more than 30 years. Unfortunately, I have health problems and confine their activity in this field. Garden is not as perfect as a few years ago.

Even though many garden pests do damage - I think we must learn to live with them - too many pesticides or insecticides are harmful to all creatures, including us!
-
I don't know if Kot does have lily beetle in his garden (it's quite far from me), but I certainly do have in mine. Now is the time for second generation and I've seen it already.
My method is close everyday inspection and hand killing of all beetles and larvae. This is successful because my garden is small. This spring I was so efficient in killing that I've observed only a few larvae. I do about the same with slugs, but I admit I also use metaldehyde containing stuff - it is very effective when the weather is dry and hot.

Hello Maggie,
It was a cold week, -5, - 8 degrees Celsius. Now it warm. Frost damaged flowers. Are memories and hope for a new plant.
Thank you for the quick response,
regards
kot
-
It is these swings of temperature from freezing to mild and warm that does a lot of damage, isn't it? For us that happens in Spring very often too. If it would get cold and stay cold it would be easier for the plants to cope I think. Not a bad black frost" of course, without snow cover - just "steady cold...... we growers do ask for a lot, eh? ! ;)
-
Hello Maggie.
Snow is the best insulation from the cold. In Poland there are sometimes winters without snow. Then a lot of plants are killed. England climate more conducive to plants and gardens.
Do you have a garden? In the next year I can give plants and bulbs of rare plants.
regards
kot

Perhaps it is viroza. I have it in the collection of a few years, and what he looks the same. This involves the seeds, but seedlings do not have this feature. Are typical of the genre. I also fritillaria forms cristata. Perhaps a virus but they are beautiful.

Hello Arthur,
You're right, this is not a variant of Natasha. Pictures of plants in my garden is doing wrong my friend and signatures. I gave the photo on a forum without identification. Iris reticulata Natasha variation from the garden will bloom like. Of course, Natasha has whitish flowers and petals narrow. In the picture is mistakenly signed one of my seedlings. Iris reticulata varieties sown worth it because it is easy to cross.

I have many years experience of growing plants from seed. Only fresh seeds guarantee success. Such species as Helleborus, Hepatica, dysosma and hard endosperm of the seeds germinate well when they are fresh. Mature seeds lose their germination.

Hi Kot,
Thank you for the offer but unfortunately I cannot send you plants, due to phytosanitary requirements. We have a nursery in British Columbia that sells hardy orchids (propagated) and I can buy it again from them.
Chen YI nursery is not to be encouraged - it is known to sell plants dug out from the wild.

Hello Mr. .;Arthur , Mr Yan.Y
Thank you for the kind words . Slowly we are rebuilding our gardens. The history of our gardens is such that either they feed the horses Russians or passed by tanks Germany. The Communists and they told us in the gardens planted cabbage.
Today I am experiencing deja wu. My father broke in 1943, the Gestapo officer named Schulz. Today, Germany with the same surname teaches me that we have to have democracy in Poland. Something wrong with this Europe ...

Physochlaina physaloides
Kot
Another great plant! Does it go dormant in late summer like Scopolia?
Also sometimes seen called Hyoscyamus physaloides
For those not familiar with the names, besides being very beautiful these plants contain powerful alkaloids (like many Solanaceae). They are used for medicinal purposes; in older times they were associated with other 'practices' as well.
-
Hello Gabriela
Hyoscyamus, Scopolia, Physochlaina belong to the family Solanaceae, and are toxic. There are also relatives of tomato, potato, eggplant, Physalis peruviana itd..

Kot,
I will try to buy seeds this year from Yuzawa Engei nursery if available and we will share.
Just that depends, it's not available every year.
-
Hi Kot,
I've not seen a bicoloured Paeonia tenuifolia before. Since you mentioned it is a Russian cultivar I typed пион узколистный into an image search but I couldn't see anything like it there either!
Will you have seed from this available?
Tim DH
-
hello Tim
Some Russian collections are fascinating. Log on to the Russian vk.com. There, the search engine allows you to find rarities. I had the seeds of Paeonia. Seedlings are not identical to the mother plant. But also interesting,

I don't quite understand Kot. Plants or seeds from them?
Shipping of the plants is not allowed without a phytosanitary certificate, and this cannot be obtained unless one has a business registered plant nursery. As far as I know this rule applies everywhere.
-
Gabriele
This applies to plants. If you have interesting wild Paeonia please contact with Oleg. Everything is possible . These are not plants from nature, only grown in the nursery
Regards
kot
-
Oleg Budkajev is from the Altay and , as far as I can gather , writes about the plants of the region, leads tours and also grown the native plants from seed. He slalso recoomends that plants only be grown from seed - see this article for instance :
http://www.vestnik-sadovoda.ru/index.php/puteshestviya-poezdki/869-ekspeditsiya-na-gorny-alta-fotoreportazh-s-poslesloviem (http://www.vestnik-sadovoda.ru/index.php/puteshestviya-poezdki/869-ekspeditsiya-na-gorny-alta-fotoreportazh-s-poslesloviem)
As ever, I reiterate the SRGC advice to satisfy oneself about the bona fides and compliance with all national and international regulations of any person before entering any trade situation.
-
Mr. .Olek does not sell plants. It can only be exchange . Only wild Paeonia.

Gabriela - Not just a phyto from the supplier you would first have to apply for a CFIA Permit to Import - $35 - for the country in question and supply the exporter with that permit so he has the specific phyto requirements as well as the permit number. The last major import we did was almost a bust save for the heroic actions of a fine young woman inspector who met us at Edinburgh Airport to give us the phyto. Then only to realize we had missed mentioning the bamboos, she sped back to the office & redid the phyto, sped back and inspected everything just as we were boarding the plane. Not easy on the nerves.
