The Curse of the Habranthus
« on: August 12, 2019, 06:26:49 PM »
I have 8 poots in the greenhoiuse, all were labelled as various Rhodophiala spp. None were, they are all Habranthus tubispathus, caveat emptor.

AGS 2016 - 4359
AGS 2016 - 4366
SRGC 2011 - 3502
SRGC 2009 - 3260
AGS 2016 - 4360
SRGC 2009/10 - 3261

I can use the greenhouse space.

Good old Habranthus tubispathus, the curse of the Seed Exchanges.  John, you are not the first (nor was I, I'm sure) and we won't be the last so cursed.   Even experts make mistakes.  I have received good but not rare bulbs of Nerine and Cyrtanthus with super-rare species names attached, from very experience collectors.

Less easily explained is why I let an enthusiast give me a half-dozen completely properly labelled pots of Habranthus tubispathus....

Jim - Good - & bad - to hear I'm not the only victim.  What's worse is the Habranthus seeds itself in my nerine pots leading tom total chaos and a loss of gh space. The SABG & the Nerine Society seems very reliable, haven't seen a seed list from the PBS.

AGS 2015/2016  #2211 Cyrtanthus mackenii = Habranthus tubispathus :-X

Actually out of the Habranthus tubispathus grown here we do have a particularly brilliant yellow find.
