Gladiolus 2024
« on: January 01, 2024, 07:56:33 AM »
The old year ends and the new year starts with the flower of Gladiolus saccatus. Three years ago, I had the opportunities to buy some small (2mm in diameter) bulbs of seedlings. Now they are flowering the first time.

I am in USDA zone 8b where temperatures almost never fall below 15F -9.4C.  Rainfall 50" 110 cm + but none  June-September.  We seldom get snow; but when it comes we get 30" overnight. Soil is sandy loam with a lot of humus.

Ashley,

What intense color!  They look almost luminous.

Thanks Marc.  Unfortunately my fuzzy photos don't do it justice but I find this plant cheering at a dull time of year.

Ashley,

Wonderful flowers and interesting Gladiolus! (if you have a few splitting bulbs left during the dormant period, I would be interested)
