Title: IRG July 2011 - IRG 19
Post by: Maggi Young on July 28, 2011, 07:48:25 PM
It's time for a new IRG edition: http://www.srgc.org.uk/logs/logdir/2011Jul281311872373IRG19.pdf

This month's IRG has contributions from Jules Fouarge, Cedrik and Štěpánka Haškovec, Zdeněk Zvolánek and  J. Ian Young.

There is talk of Campanulas, Gentians and  Hypericums, from Turkey and the Himalayas,  as well as visits to the Picos de Europa and the Cascades.

If the IRG is showing you plants that you would love to grow, remember our wonderful Seed Exchange that can give you access to such seed and also support it with donations of seed from your own garden.

A little more about two IRG contributors.........

Štěpánka and Cedrik Haškovec are a couple with a mutual interest in photographing mountain flowers. Cedrik graduated in plant physiology, but then he switched his PhD. Study to yeast and for the last 20 years he has been engaged in molecular oncohematology. He  has also published around 60 scientific papers in these topics. During his stay in Seattle in US he began to make pictures of flowers and after his return to the Czech Republic he continued this with his wife in the Czech and Slovak mountains, Alps and Turkish and Spanish mountains.  They have  published several articles in the Czech rock gardener magazine Skalničky, Czech magazines Příroda (Nature) and Krkonoše a Jizerské hory, on  the web at Botany.cz and recently also in IRG. They have taken part in several exhibitions of photos of the Fotoklub ÚHKT Praha and they had two solo exhibitions mainly of mountain flowers in Praha and České Budějovice. Cedrik is also an active chess player (Elo rating 1982), he used to go white water kayaking and he enjoys cooking.  Štěpánka began as a computer programmer and now she is employed as an economist in a hospital. She loves nature and initially she recorded flowers and nature in general, on tapes. Now she prefers to make pictures of flowers and of all other things that catch her interest.  At home Štěpánka breeds guinea pigs.

These orchid photos are from the Haškovecs recent Picos trip.....

Orchis mascula

Orchis papilionacea var grandiflora

Orchis ustulata

Ophrys apifera
