Unbelievable

its still march and here is the first Iris lutescens in flower
not the best picture and selection
but it is early this year

They're starting here too but almost over in the south of france, in the nature.

took me almost a week
I found lovely colours
but not a white one

I loved my yellow lutescens until it died but the yellow is better. Why would an Iris called lutescens also come in purple?

Mark, there is a lot of variation in Iris lutescens colors but why ???? Ask Miss Nature  ;D
and colors are always mixed in the wild populations.
I suppose that the purple one is the original obne and the yellow forms are anthocyan variations....

When I visited La Provence Verte (near Aix en provence)
most of the places with Iris lutescens where yellow
al-doh after searching a long time
like bulbissime I found a lot of nice colours
from purple to bronze , and yellow to blue
so probably the one who named it
did not see blue ones
or thought the blue one (the most common after the yellow)
was an other species

When I see these photos of species I wonder why people want to make irises bigger and frillier. The simplicity but exquisiteness is unique in the species.
