You will have to read the inside of the front cover to find an account of this snowdrop. It is G. 'Drummond Giant', originated in Co. Carlow.

Unfortunately, I have only a black and white photograph to  hand at this moment; colour photograph on external hard drive and I am making the dinner so haven't time to get it out.

I understand the logic of the sellers of dyed heathers.... they can get vast quantities of fairly large but very boring run of the mill heathers that the customers are not interested in BUT they have discovered that people are daft enough to pay good money for them if they are sprayed/dipped in bright colours.... so they spend a little money on paint and make loads... the perfect logic of the businessman

Any chance of a recap of the Galanthus Events 2008.  Your original post was in July of 2007 when some of the details were provisional.  Plus there seem to be other events (something in Essex?) that have only been mentioned in passing.

Sorry to ask again but this thread seems to have lost track of its intended topic.  Somebody was kind enough to tell me that the "Essex event" might be a visit to Glen Chantry organised under the auspices of the Alpine Garden Society - but I don't know the date.

Joe Sharman's "Galanthus Gala" is in Shaftesbury in Dorset on Saturday 16th February.  There may be places still available but I have been unable to contact Joe since Xmas.

"Slovenian Snowdrops" by Michael Dreisvogt
There is a plant sale following the talks and an afternoon visit to Angela Whitfield's garden at Snape Cottage.

The RHS has a London Show on 12th & 13th February which usually features snowdrops quite heavily.  These shows are held at the Royal Horticultural Halls, Greycoat Street, London SW1.

Anglesey Abbey in Cambridgeshire runs guided tours of the Winter Walk and Snowdrop Collection.  The latter is not otherwise open to the public.  Tours take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and start at 2:00 p.m.  Admission is by (free) ticket but you have to pay to enter the garden (if you are not a National Trust member).  The tickets are issued on a first-come-first-served basis on the day (so if you arrive towards 2:00 p.m. you will usually be too late to get a ticket).

The Cottage Garden Society has a Snowdrop Group which usually holds an event in February, but I don't know the date or venue.

Thanks Paddy; unfortunately my copy wasn't to hand when posting.  Yes I must look out for that one.

Potted flowering elwesii may be a UK phenomenon because run-of-the-mill garden centres here don't seem to do them

Don't forget that in tandem with the Scottish Snowdrop Walk there is the Early Bulb Display in Dunblane on Saturday 16^th February which has a huge selection of snowdrops both on display and for sale, usually including 'Sophie North' and 'Little Ben'.

Alan the Glen Chantry visit is the 6th of February, I would be amazed if there are any tickets left, but it would be worth a try.

Our snowdrop day is February 16th starting with the gardens of June Dougherty and Bob Gordon. June has a huge carpet of G. nivalis covering most of the property and masses of C. tomassinianus. Lunch comes next £14 at a local hotel. The third garden is Margaret Glynn's almost just across the road. There will be a plant sale there with crazily priced snowdrops (will she ever learn!) and Hellebores. Last garden is mine

The CGS Snowdrop Group Members Day is on Thursday 21st February 2008, at Worthing, West Sussex - speakers are Phil Cornish ('Snowdrop Discoveries') & Colin Mason ('The snowdrops he has introduced') & the day starts with a plant sale. After lunch there is a visit to the late Sir Frederick Stern's famous garden at 'Highdown'.
