Is this Campanula Dolomitica?
« on: June 12, 2010, 03:29:39 PM »
I grew this from seed last year, it looks like it is going to be invasive whatever it is.
Any information would be appreciated.

Don't know what it is but is does look menacing. Is that Campanula barbata to the right of the second picture?

Yes it is, Martin, I have half a dozen or so of them and they are just starting to flower. Really lovely plants.
You have a good eye.

C. barbata is probably my favourite campanula, every time I see it it takes me back to two wonderful weeks in Wengen. Just coming into bloom in the garden here as well.

Campanula dolomitica?
The leaves look right for C. dolomitica.
Mind that this plant makes underground runners that pop up now and then.
However a specimen with nice creamy-white flowers.

Compare the picture of Campanula dolomitica on the Kadel site
http://www.kadel.cz/flora/Images/WebSize/IMG_0301.jpg

by the way, the site is a brilliant resource for those that haven't seen it before, very easy to use and also up to date on nomenclature:
The Home page is here
http://www.kadel.cz/flora/kvSearch.asp.htm
but I bookmark the genus search page as the best starting place

Luc, this plant is sending up satellite plants fairly quickly. I do want to see the flowers before deciding what to do with it though.
I got rid of a Pink Octopus last year that was sending out runners and popping up new plants a yard away from the plant after only a few months.
Couldn't believe what I saw when I dug it up.

Thanks for the link Diane, it will come in very handy.
