SOUTH WEST AGS SHOW-EXETER 27 March 2010

Just had a meal after my return from the South West Show and thoughts are turning to pictures. Whilst thoughts may well turn David's been on his pins all day (from general factotum; steward; a very short spell on the tombola table whilst the regular spent a penny, and, when all the plants and most of the people had gone, furniture shifter etc!) and he's tired (pause whilst you say Ohhhh!!).

So, to start with, and indeed to finish with this evening, here is Lee and Julie Martin's Farrer winning Trillium rivale one component in a cracking three pan entry.

Many more images, hopefully tomorrow when I've done the fiddling about bits. Although, as I pinched the car today and Maureen was housebound (with no shopping opportunity!) I shall no doubt be paying penance

Met David Hore (bet I've spelt that wrong but I'm to bushed to check) he did really well today with both Saxes and Primulas.

Enjoy the Farrer, it's me for a single malt now.

Sounds like an exhausting day, David.... though when was a show day ever anything other than crazy?
Have a dram and relax.... we can wait!
What a lovely Farrer Trillium. Kind of spooky that a Trillium rivale gets the medal in Exeter and a Trillium nivale wins in Hexham..... pity there hadn't been another show today or there could have been a triumvirate of tremendous trillium winners.

First lot from the South Western AGS Show yesterday.

Firstly two shots of the Show Hall showing well filled benches and, as judging had finished a fair number of people peering at plants. It's a very good hall with excellent light.




Now to plants:-

Mike and Christine brown's Cyclamen pseudibiricum sown in October 1996. A First in Class 11 for 1 pan Cyclamen.


The remaining two pans  from Lee and Julie Martin's entry in Class 2 for 3 rock plants distinct. The third was the farrer winning plant posted earlier. Sorry byt didn't get the names of either.




Paul and Gill Ranson's First winning entry in Class 4 for three pans Primulaceae distinct.

Primula 'Pink Aire' another brilliant Primula. David told me it is about ten years old.

Great plants and what a good hall it is, David, just as you say.... fantastic natural light. If only all show halls were like that... apart from anything else, if one spends the whole day indoors working at the show it's so much more pleasant to have that good light and there you have the spacious double height room too.... very nice!

There's nothing subtle is there, about a large Dionysia in full bloom?

Some amazing plants, I enjoy looking at these show plants, can only dream that oneday I could have a plant as wonderful as those . Looking forward to see somemore tomorrow.

David, your photos and details are absolutely excellent - so clear, thank you. Lots of fabulous entries and the light in the hall makes the colours and shapes of the plants come alive in 3D
