differences between G peshmenii and G reginae-olgae
« on: October 03, 2009, 08:09:02 PM »
The autumn season 2009 of Galanthus is open now. We all show and look to the flowers of  G peshmenii and G. reginae-olgae here in the forum. But where are the differences between the both?? Who can distinguish between both?  Who can distinguish the flowers? Let`s have not only pics of the flowers. We should show also pics from the leaves at their beginning of development. I often heard, G r-o comes with flower and leaves together, but the flowers of Gp blooms without leaves. Is it really so?
I just saw a pic of Gp, Mark showed us. There were really only flowers,  no leaves. Here is a pic of Gp from the original habitat, where you can see both, the developing flower and developing leaves too. May be Galanthus peshmenii is very variable?
Please let us discuss and show the differences between these most important autumn flowering snowdrops. Who can help?

Hagen, last year Joe Sharman told me the only way to know which is which is to know 100% who collected them and from what area. He also says both can flower with or without leaves. I wish mine looked as good as yours.

Mark, my pic`s  were made in Turkey. Not in Germany. Hope you have had a glass over Your bulbs in the Irish summer?? Different geographical provenance isn`t sufficient for different species. So we have to search for other differences. Let us collect a lot of pics of flowers but also of leaves in this topic. You particularly could help me with the language.

Now all of my few Gp have leaves of the length you can see. I mean this is a question of water.
