here is a new member of the Amaryllidaceae family :

Cryptostephanus vansonii

This plants are relatet with Clivia ....

I grow also  Cryptostephanus haemanthoides ....but until now no flowers ( this plants are much more difficould then C.vansonii )

Hi Alessandro ,

I have bought this plant in this year ....it is grown from seeds sowing in year 2004 !
In my collection I have a second plant ( around 3 years old ) ....so I hope for the next years for two flowering plants :P

Hans, thanks for the PBS link, very useful.  I thought it might be from South America, rather than Africa like the Clivia ...... I was wrong again!!

I have a couple of 2 year old seedlings, so it is lovely to see the flowers.  What conditions do others grow it in, particularly what sort of potting media etc?  I need to repot mine now, which is why I am asking.

Paul ,

my suggestion for a potting mix is :
sphagnum ,gravel ( or scoria or pumice )bark ( from each 33% )
or
same mix like for Clivia ( 2 parts organic material + 1 part mineralic material )

Sorry Alberto , no scent  :'(

they have also more or less no pollen and the stigma is not visable ....I try it with pollination ( selfed ) but I'm not shure if self fertil or self steril ....
