Pacific Coast Irises

Some irise we saw in N. California/SW Oregon. All the pictures were taken in heavy rain which was not easy as many had collapsed and others turned watery. Each grew in a well defined area and the colours did not mix although  the colonies might only be a mile apart. I know they have all been given different species names but I am leaving that subject well alone.We saw them in groups sometimes of thousands other times just a few.

Very nice indeed Tony. I'm told they need an acid soil, is that what they get in the wild?

David its one huge volcanic mass covering hundreds of square miles. We saw no hint of limestone anywhere.

So they might do rerasonably in a fairly neutral soil?

I've only got one, David, but I'm gardening on dry sandy, slightly acid soil and it looks stunning just now.
