I have grown this plants from seeds - received from a plantfriend from Brasil in year 2003 ....

 The red and green is gorgeous, a very smart and striking combination.

But, Hans, are you not supposed to be walking in the Black Forest now?  :-\ Or are you home in time for watching Le Tour?  ;D

Hi Maggi  :D

As you know has start today the Tour .......... ;D
so we are back since yesterday evening !

I have taken with me this two Hippeastrum and the Cryptostephanus to see them flowering in Black Forrest....I had fear to come home and the flowers are over  :'(

Dear Hans, you amazed me with this pictures! It is unusual for aulicum to flower now, bt it looks just aulicum.

do you think it is a variety ?

the leaves are a bit red , the bracts are different on each plant :from light pink until dark green ( I have now 3 flowering plants )

I have also a other H. aulicum ( from Netherland ) this family grows it since 80 years !

great success.
I have H.aulicum with leafes "green like grass" and the flowers seem not to be as bright as yours, flowering time usually is November/December and I have plants I got as H.aulicum var. robustum with darker green leaves and one H.aulicum with reddish leafs, both didn´t flowered until now.
The pictures show my H.aulicum, can you see differences?

Bye the way: Usually people make journeys with their dogs or cats....but with plants? I though I am a freak!

A new Hippeastrum is flowering for me, Hippeastrum evansiae. It is a evergreen one which makes stolones, very interesting.

Rogan,
no scent but I love this creamy green colour. It is a small one, nearly 35cm high and the flowers have a diameter of 10cm from leaf tip to leaf tip.
