Prague spring show
« on: March 21, 2007, 08:01:53 AM »
Hello
Does anyone know of the exact dates for the spring shows in Prague this year?
Also the cheapest means of sleeping a couple of nights in Prague, for two hitchhikers?

hi Razvan,
I know the conference is visiting in the show on the 5th May. It runs for 3 weeks. Here is what I found on the website. It will be my first time in prague so I don't know anything about cheap accomodation.

SHOWS
Including plant sale in the traditional show church garden on Karlovonamesti - Moran, Prague 1, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (dates are also shown on the RGC Calendar under "Vystavy")

Early Spring Show:  27 March – 1 April, 2006  (Karel Lang and Jiří Novák)
Main Spring Show:  3 - 20 May, 2006 (Vojtech Holubec, Martin Hajman)
Autumn Show: 11 - 23 September, 2006

Hello Susan
I also found those dates on the website, but they are for 2006 and I was wondering if they would be the same considering the early season this year.

Razvan,
Here is 2007 spring Czech exhibitions schedule:
http://www.skalnicky.cz/vystavy.php
Prague:
2.4. - 7.4.2007
2.5. - 19.5.2007

Rooms are very cheap there. Note two weeks around May,1 there are a lot of tourists in Czech and hotels are slightly more expensive.

and cheaper outside the city centre. I was 10 minutes walk from the show in September 2005. I'll look for the map later and tell you roughly where I stayed

They have English mirror at
http://www.backyardgardener.com/cz.html
But it is poor. Fresh information is only at the Czech version.

Mark is absolutely right. Prague is not big and staying at the outskirts is convenient. *** costs $15-25 for person for double room. If you are going to visit Pruhonice you can stay there.

Razvan, the best is, if you ask on the train station (czech. "Hlavni Nadrazi"). There are a lot of "accomodation agency". If you want privat lodging, morning, when to the city go international trains there are a lot of people, that offer their accomodation (czech. "Ubytovanie").

When want you visit the exhibition?

Thanks for the links.
I am thinking of going at the end of April - beginning of May, as on my way from Romania to Praga I would be able to attend three shows: at Bratislava, Brno and Prague (on 29, 30 April and 2 May). And on my way back maybe go the Belvedere Alpine Garden in Vienna.
Have to see though, how things work out.

Now that is interesting. We have have 7 Slovaks at work and I've asked them all, when at home, to find out if there is a alpine/rock garden club. They have all come back to say no. Now you say you will attend a show in Bratislava. Is there a group in Slovakia?

Well I've sort of translated Olga's link http://www.skalnicky.cz/vystavy.php using a website translator, and from that vague translation, I understand that there are shows on 28.4. - 8.5.2007 in BRNO and on 28.4. - 1.5.2007  in BRATISLAVA [and several smaller towns]. I'm not sure if the shows deal excusively with alpine plants, but any plant show would be interesting. Well now, if someone could translate that page, there would be some interesting information.
