Galanthus transcaucasicus / Iran

Hi all ,

I would like to show you today pics of my Galanthus transcaucasicus/Iran .

Last year I have show you my pics from G. transcausicus / Azerbaijan :

The main difference for me is the flowering time -this plants from Iran have start with flowering in November / December -those from Azerbaijan in February ....

Those are wonderful pics Hans. Quite early too? I notice that Jānis lists this snowdrop, and by this year's price, he regards it as 66⅔% more special than platyphyllus. :o

Our supermarkets are beginning to put pots of spring bulbs
outside their doors, very late this year because of the cold
weather we have had.

Last year the snowdrops were all elwesii, but this year they
are another species, even though the labels all say elwesii.

I quickly assumed they are woronowii, but now I'm not sure.
I bought a couple and checked them with the key in Davis.

Could they be transcaucasicus?  They are brought in from a
wholesaler in the Netherlands.

Similar snowdrops are also available in UK garden centres in large numbers.  These are generally held to be woronowii, no matter what the label says.  On Saturday I bought a dubious G. platyphyllus at a snowdrop event so others on the forum have been helping by posting their woronowii photos on the events thread; take a look at those.

If you want to compare with the real thing, IRAN 2008 page 6. I do not know how to provide the link, altho' I know someone who does.  Maggi can you oblige please.

Unlikely Diane, as they look very like my woronowii from a garden centre. The very green woronowii I showed elsewhere came from the USA as krasnovii, but clearly isn't that.

Just had a pleasant wander through Iran again. Now I'm really not sure what the differences between trancaucasicus and woronowii are? :-\
