Physoplexis in October!
« on: October 05, 2008, 10:12:09 AM »
I never cease to be amazed at how plants do just what they fancy and when they fancy it.
Have they not read the book?
The Colchicum in the pics is bang on time - but the Physoplexis!
It is a Slack Top seedling planted in a nursery trough for my minigarden and set under the proch at the front of our house in fairly deep shade. The flowers are not large, about 40mm diameter, and although it seemed to have settled very happily I had certainly not expected it to flower this year.
Another pleasant surprise is the 'no-name' small sedum which has seeded in a 'faded label' pot and appears to be another minigarden candidate.

Ain't Life Great? ;D

I've found that many rock garden plants will bloom again in early October if they're happy...

My Physoplexis disappears (this year there is one leaf still attached) and looks dead by October, only to come back better than ever in early summer!

Mine flowers in October (SH) then disappears by early summer, returning for a few extras in early autumn.
