Barrie Milroy Porteous
January 17, 1945 – April 9, 2022

"In Loving Memory

Barrie Milroy Porteous was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1945. His parents were the late John and Doreen and he was the beloved husband of Jane. Dear brother in law of Mary and John and Ev. Uncle to Jean-Francois (Samantha), Rory (Jennie), Arlyn (Scott) and April (Trevor) and great uncle to Sid, Adele, Sam, Roman and Kiri.

After receiving an honours degree in Chemistry from Heriot-Watt University, Barrie began his career in printing ink in Edinburgh. He emigrated to Canada and obtained a job in the same field working for Sinclair and Valentine, Inmont, BASF and Sun Chemical in managerial positions.

An avid gardener, his interest took him to the gardens of Britain and the mountains of Europe, the United States and Canada to view alpine flowers. The friendships made through gardening were very precious to him and Jane. He has had plants named after him and his gardens in Muskoka and Richmond Hill gave him great joy.

He enjoyed playing golf in Scotland, Canada and Florida. A Soccer fan, he supported Man United and Hibs in Scotland. He also loved and had an extensive collection of single malt scotch.

Slainte Barrie."

Barrie was one of the founding members of the Ontario Rock Garden and Hardy Plant Society.
He, and his Mother before him, were keen SRGC members.  Barrie and Jane are known to many of us  and we send our condolences to Jane on her loss.

Thanks so much for the link Maggi. I've not seen the P. marginata 'Porteous' before.
