Ad Hoc plants

I saw some people asking about nurseries and I remembered:

I've been trying to place an order by e-mail to ad hoc plants in Lancashire a couple of times this year but I never got an answer; does anyone know if it's still in business?

Wim I don't know about Andrew's online activities but we see him regularly at AGS Shows. Unfortunately he has lost the land which he used to have for his plants and the last time I spoke to him he hadn't found another site. He has been unloading all his plants through the season. Sorry I can't help any more.

Use some caution when ordering, I bought and paid for plants from him off eBay last May, but he has yet to mail them, and once the 30-day PayPal refund period expired he stopped responding to emails all together... Also see The Garden Watchdog and P.C. Nijssen.

In his defence the plants are very nice, if you get them.

Good communication has never been his strong point (one of the penalties of being a 'one man show' I suppose) but I have had plants from him on a few occasions and they have always been good quality and well packed.

Mark,how do you work out that the EBay link is actually Andrew??

Alpinesilverdog is his Ebay name. You will remember I was the first to comment about his nursery and go with what PC Nijssen say.

Wim you now have your answer. Can the forum members supply what you are looking for?

BUT we should slag him because bad word always travells faster than good.

To be fair I could actually see myself ordering again if he'd just respond to emails, the plants are very nice and so is the selection. Ordering the first time around went like a charm, the second time not so much. It shouldn't be a problem as long as you pay thru PayPal and keep in mind the 30-day refund window.

In defence of Andrew im sure he will get back. We have bought off him at his nursey, at shows and mail order, and have had no problem at all.

It's a shame he stopped and he doesn't seem to be very reliable. He had a nice selction of plants;

Wim, you may not have heard of the Royal Horticulural Society(RHS) Plant Finder, you will find it here

I looked for Morisia monanthos 'Fred Hemmingway' and it is listed at 9 UK nurseries, 7 of which have mail order available, I did not search for other plants on your list. If a plant is listed in the Pant Finder it does not always mean that a nursery will have it in stock and it is always best to contact them before ordering. I hope this helps, and if you have any difficulty please let me know and I will do the searches on your other plants for you.

But even there it is not possible to find them all... and ordering just one plant by mail order is very expensive.
But I saw in the RHS plantfinder that Edrom sells Anemonella thalictroïdes "Betty Blake" and since I'm going to order from them anyhow in fall I'll put it on the list.
Also I've ordered some seed of Epilobium crassum at B&T seeds today.
So it would seem I'm only still looking for these four:

Celmisia argentea
Dianthus brevicaulis
Fritillaria glauca
Morisia monanthos 'Fred Hemmingway'

Dear friends
I have tried twice to buy plants from Ad Hoc Plants but never had a reply to my e-mails. His internet site is appealing and for a foreign customer the cost of delivery and the range of plants "available" are very interesting. I was looking for epimediums and daphnes which are rarely offered by mail order nurseries or are charged with high delivery costs.
When I read your messages I understood that to get in contact with this nursery is rather difficult.
