Daphne 2020

Apologies if there is already a daphne thread...
Daphne genkwa flowering now.

Still in a pot while I dither about where to plant it. We have a lot of solitary bees around at the moment, flagrantly defying all guidance on social distancing. I've suggested that they may like to hybridise the genkwa with my D. mezereum album that is still flowering at the moment - something with the ease of growth and fragrance of mezerum and the lovely lilac colour and downy hairs of genkwa would be nice...

Just when I thought Daphnes are boring - they are all pink and creamy, out comes this beauty! Amazing! Just show how much I know! Good work and lovely flowers!

Daphne calcicola. It has appreciated the mild winter - usually there is a bit of leaf damage and the odd branch lost to cold winds in late winter. This year it looks good.
