Potterton's  Nursery  was  one  of the specialist  sellers  at the  show  today - this  is  Rob Potterton's pick and  pic!

"Superb Crocus bifloris pulchricolor, exhibited by Mr. Eric Jarrett. My favourite plant at today’s @AlpineGardenSoc  Loughborough Show."

Another  terrific report  from Jon Evans  on the  show CLICK HERE

Lovely  to see  more  of  Anne  Wright's  narcissus and  that  the  Dionysia aretioides x teucriodes , shown by  David  Charlton, will be  given the  cultivar  name ' Evie  Jane  Nicholls' after the  beloved  grandaughter  of  the  raiser  of the  plant, Pat  Nicholls.  The  plant  was  given an award by the  RHS Joint  Rock Garden Committee and  so needs  a name - so lovely  to see  it  remembering  one  of  Pat's two tragically  deceased baby grand-daughters.

Remembering Lee Martin
« Reply #5 on: April 03, 2020, 11:58:20 AM »
It  was  very  sad  to hear  the  other  day that Lee Martin had  died after  an illness.  Lee and  his  wife  Julie  were often mentioned  in these  pages, usually as the  exhibitors  of  truly  spectacular show  plants, for which they won a large  amount  of  Best  in Show  Medals si I thought  it  fitting  to place  this  post  here- in the  thread for a  show  which they regularly supported.

The  pair  were  always  smiling and  my  fondest memory  of the  two is  of their  mock  anger  at their  car  getting  covered in the  sticky  mess  from aphids  in the  trees above  it  at the  Nottingham Alpines  Conference!

Jon Evans, a  long time  friend  of  Lee and  Julie, has posted a super tribute on his diary, illustrated, as  you  might  imagine, with some  of his  photos  of their  most  attractive  show  exhibits. You  can read  that  here:
https://www.alpinegardensociety.net/plants/in-honour-of-lee-martin/

There  will be  many  of  us  who mourn the loss  of  Lee and  our  sympathies  go out  to Julie  at this  sad time.

This  photo by  Jon Evans  is  of Julie  and  Lee with their  magnificent Campanula aff. andrewsii MELJ200944 at  the  Summer South Show 2012    (grown from seed  collected by  Melvyn Jope)
