Narcissus February 2020
« on: February 01, 2020, 07:34:03 PM »
It's the height of 'hoop' season here, although the trumpets are racing ahead faster than I'd like.
I have good potfuls of some of our Moon series, since a chipping session has finally come to flowering! I also took some comparison photos so you can see differences between some of the cultivars. The names are with the photos. This batch compare Cyllene, Tellesto, Tethys and Themisto.

Here are close-up shots of the flowers of Helene and my favourite, Tethys.  Moon L is as yet unnamed. Almost all have a beautiful scent.

A really awesome presentation!

Anne, is it possible to add species (hybrid) names to the cultivars shown?
Another question is: Are the differences in heigth stable characteristics
of the resepective cultivars?

Hi Gerd, Yes, the heights are characteristic.
The parents are:
Themisto - romieuxii Atlas Gold x romieuxii albidus SF110
Moon L - Cantabricus petunioides x romieuxii Atlas Gold
Helene  - romieuxii albidus SF110 OP
Tethys, Telesto, Cyllene - cantabricus petunioides x romieuxii albidus SF110

Hi Anne,
‘’’Thanks’’’ for the wonderful pictures…. I’ve been trying to resist ‘Hoops’ for a while!!

Meanwhile I agree with trumpets being somewhat ahead… Attached the first daff in my (Yorkshire) garden this year (Spring Dawn) about three weeks ahead of the last two years, and I thought it was advanced even then!!

I've been advised that the RHSDaffodil, Snowdrop and Tulip 2019 Yearbook will be published end of this week/early next week after a very long delay.
Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.

I hope we  get to see  how  you  grow  these , Tatsuo - if they do as well as  N. 'Don Stead' you  show  today, they will be  even better than they appear  with Anne! (And that's  saying  something! )

I think the pot of Tethys has 47 bulbs in it! I would like to see how these grow for Tatsuo. :)

This narcissus came from 2014 SRGC Seed Exchange labeled as “2802 Narcissus bulbocodium pallidus, ex SBL 237
I really like this almost flat disk like flowered seedling. It looks a form of N. romieuxii than N. bubocodium var. pallidus for me, though ::)
Thank you to the seed donnor :-*
