The Museum in the Park, Stroud, Gloucestershire, is celebrating the story of the Giant Snowdrop Company which was based at Hyde, very close to Stroud. There is a small exhibition and  a collection of snowdrops associated with the company within the Walled Garden of the Mansion House is being established.
The exhibition runs until the end of March. (No admission charges and there is  free car parking nearby. Closed Mondays.)

From the  Museum news page :
"As winter begins to lift its heavy blanket from the earth, Snowdrops are often the first sign of Spring – the first indicator of new life beginning in the soil.

From 1st January to 31st March 2019 the Museum in the Park is celebrating the story of the Giant Snowdrop Company – a business based in Hyde, near Stroud, from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s.

There will be a small display in the museum’s reception area telling the story of this local company whose importance is nationally recognised as having laid the foundations for the current popularity and availability of snowdrops.  By collecting, propagating and offering bulbs for sale by mail order Brigadier and Mrs Mathias with Herbert Ransom made available to a wide group of ordinary gardeners what had previously been accessible only to a small group of dedicated Galanthophiles. We will be able to share some of their catalogues with information from the then national experts about the leading varieties sold; letters from key people and collectors of the time, as well as medals won at Royal Horticultural Society shows.

In addition, in the Walled Garden behind the museum we have a collection of snowdrop varieties connected with the Giant Snowdrop Company, from the scented Galanthus S. Arnott – the original giant snowdrop – to snowdrops collectively  known as the ‘Hyde Four’ named after family members as well as many other notable varieties.

You can also join us on 28th February at 2pm for a talk by Jane Kilpatrick and Jennifer Harmer–the authors of the 2018 book ‘The Galanthophiles – 160 years of Snowdrop Devotees’ – booking essential (cost £5), call 01453 763394.

The Giant Snowdrop Company and the Galanthophiles of Gloucestershire runs from 1st January to Sunday 31st March 2019.

Notes: This exhibition would not have been possible without the generous support of the following people: Quentin Mathias, Jane Kilpatrick, Jennifer Harmer, Sally Ann Berryman (nee Ransom), Alan Ransom, Ann Taylor and Caroline Dicker. "

The folks at Cambo are hard at work .... "A busy day here at Cambo working on our gigantic galanthus, 'to-do' list for the Snowdrop Festival 2019! To celebrate, a few of our good Galanthus friends are up early, to cheer us on day by day! The garden is open, free entry for our first few weeks of the year to entice you to put on a jumper, get the boots on and have a new year's stomp. Hope to see you here, if not - pop by to one of our Discover Scottish Gardens or partner RHS - Royal Horticultural Society gardens."

Possibly the last chance to see Andrew and Lally Cox's wonderful garden. They were a wonderful couple who stung me with the Snowdrop bug.

SNOWDROP DAY ‘SATURDAY 19TH JANUARY 2019’

Premier event at Harvey's Garden Plants, great choice and expert advice!

Oh dear, Roger Harvey and Ben Potterton (with Joe Sharman) are once again going head-to-head with rival events on the same day, at much the same time and in much the same part of the country.  It's a re-run of last year's clash, unfortunately.
Almost in Scotland.
