Hi Anne,

Picked up this from a post on FB by Janet Benjafield .....

I think the advanced season down south is being  reacted to by this earlier date.

March 3, 2018 has been confirmed as the date for the Second Annual Galanthus Gala in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.

"The vendors are unparalleled and all your snowdrop, trillium, hellebore (and many other plant-related) dreams can come true. Whether you are a collector or wish to begin a collection of choice woodlanders and woody plants, it’s a lovely way to spend some time on a Saturday, catch up with old friends and make new ones. There will also be short talks presented by a few of the vendors on propagation, cultivation, etc. Refreshments will be available. (The date coincides with the opening date of the Philadelphia Flower Show; you could easily squeeze both in one day.) Further details (time, list of vendors, location) to follow, but do mark your calendar, it is a wonderful event. "

The Yorkshire Snowdrop Trail will be on 17-18 February 2018 at Primrose Bank Nursery near YORK.
Just a reminder that Dryad Nursery will be selling potted snowdrops at the Yorkshire Snowdrop Trail event at Primrose Bank nursery near York on 17-18 February 2018. This is the only time you can buy plants from Dryad 'live' ie not by mail order. There will also be a pot of Galanthus Dryad Gold Bullion for sale by auction, in aid of the Anthony Nolan trust

The snowdrop season kicks-off in England this coming weekend with two rival events in East Anglia.  I say 'rival' because, unfortunately, these are scheduled on the same day, Saturday 20th January, and at exactly the same time.  I think both have been covered previously in this topic but I thought it worthwhile to compare and contrast.
  • Organised by Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery but with venue the Earsham Wetland Centre near Bungay in Norfolk, the event runs from 10 am to 2 pm with a talk by Gert-Jan van der Kolk at 11am.  Tickets are £10 and presumably need to be booked in advance in order to attend the talk.  Sellers (pre-publicised) are Joe Sharman, Ben Potterton and (our own) Brian Ellis.
  • Organised by Harveys Garden Plants and held at their nursery near Thurston in Suffolk, this event also runs from 10 am to 2pm.  There is no talk but the publicity says "rare species and cultivars on display and for sale" so perhaps there will be a display as well as sales?  Tickets are £2.50 and are sold on the door.  Sellers (pre-publicised) are Harveys themselves, Glen Chantry, Richard Bashford, John Foster, Michael Broadhurst, and Edulis Nursery.
The two events are only 32 miles and 45 minutes apart by road but it's a case of "so near and yet so far" as they have been scheduled for exactly the same time slot.
Almost in Scotland.

I agree, I live in rural Norfolk, love snowdrops, nothing goes on for 99 per cent of the year and then I have 2 events at one time and will no doubt miss out on something I really want as I am at the wrong place first and will be rushing about.  But a great Saturday to look forward to wherever
you go...?
