NEWCASTLE SHOW - PONTELAND  8th October 2016

PLEASE NOTE - THERE ARE ROAD WORKS ON PONTELAND MAIN STREET AT THE MOMENT AND IT WOULD BE WISE TO LEAVE AN EXTRA 15 MINUTES FOR YOUR JOURNEY TO THE SHOW.

I think there may be those  who have an even earlier start to head to Ponteland in pursuit of a Farrer Medal !   Weather forecast seems reasonable so hoping for a safe and pleasant trip for all members heading to the show, one of the three  joint AGS/SRGC shows each year.

Other award winners ...Alan Newton was the popular winner of the Ponteland Bowl for most first points in the open section.The Ewesley Salver for the best cyclamen in a 19 cm pot went to Derek Pickard. Alan Furness took the Patricia Furness trophy for his pot of Crocus hadriaticus.  Ian & Maria Leslie received a certificate of merit for their Celmisia. The Millennium Trophy for best foliage plant also went to the Wallis pairing for another fine cyclamen.

In section 2/intermediate  Lawrence Peet took the Inner Eye trophy for most points while  Christine Boulby won the Newcastle trophy for the best plant in sections 2 & 3. The Ralph Haywood trophy which moves round AGS show for best shrub  was won by  David & Liz Livermore's Correa in section 2. Dennis Brennan won the Newcastle Bowl for most points in section 3/novice- the campanula is one of his plants.
