Sad news of the death of great Saxifraga expert
« on: January 05, 2016, 01:02:41 PM »
Sad News via Adrian Young:

"I have just heard from Jirka Novak about the death of Dr.Radvan Hornư this Christmas.
We cannot overstate the importance of the work Dr.Hornư published in 1986 in conjunction with K.M.Webr and John Byam-Grounds. Porophyllum Saxifrages is still the only book with botanical drawings and descriptions of cultivars.

RIP Dr. Hornư "

Many of us will know and value  Dr Hornư 's book and he will be missed .

This is very sad indeed. Dr Horny looks too young to be leaving his friends, even though I suppose this photo was taken some years ago, perhaps when the book was new. The book itself is one of my most valued and a wonderful source of information for growers and hopeful breeders alike.
