Thanks Maggi for your introduction. The Show Season has rumbled on to Glasgow's turn on Saturday 7th and we are obviously so looking forward to welcoming everyone.
The 4 nurseries are as mentioned viz. Ardfearn, Hartside, Kevock and Rumbling Bridge.
The tearoom will be rising to the occasion with its usual range of mouth-watering delights.
Hopefully, the benches will be groaning with a late season bounty from exhibitors "frae a' the airts".
Weather prediction looks good. Some optimistic (or deranged) soul even suggesting that the warm weather starts on Friday. Oh aye! Heard it! See you all on Saturday, I'll be the one with sunglasses.

NOTE TO EXHIBITORS.
On checking your Show schedule you'll see that there is a typing error at class 33. An indented line there has, unfortunately and erroneously, been numbered and wasn't spotted at the time. The effect is threefold (a) Classes 34 to 63 in Section1 have all been moved 1 forward; (b) There are two classes 63, one at the end of Section 1 and one at the beginning of Section 2; (c) classes whose wording refers to another class (ie class 54, 60, 61,96) might cause a litte confusion. Thankfully, it is not too problematic:
(a) Just enter classes as they appear on the Schedule: if you have 1 pan Lewisia you simply enter class 41 etc.
(b) Re class 63, I'll ensure at telephone stage that it's the "correct" 63.
(c) Again, commonsense will dictate that the wording for, say, class 54 should read "...as in class53". And similarly for the two others 60 and 61 should read "....for classes 15-59". Class 96 should read "... as in class 63 (Section 1)".
All of this might sound a lot but it is not. Really , it's just commonsense.

At the risk of over-kill can I just re-inforce that exhibitors should enter classes as they appear on  the Show Schedule. No adjustment is required on your part. If you have i pan of Gentian just enter it in class 39 and so on. Thanks.

So far no word of  locals or visitors to Glasgow show at Milngavie  celebrating World Naked Gardening Day - but news has arrived of the Forrest Medal winner!

Great pic from Alan Gardner of the winning plant- Ranunculus parnassifolius,  a beauty grown by Sam Sutherland

Sounds from his Tweet like Peter Moore isn't going to make it to Aberdeen SRGC Show next Saturday - but he's had a good day at Milngavie with four firsts !
Show is open till 3.30 at Milngavie Town Hall today

A very fine show indeed with notable contributions from both sides of the border. Starting with Sam who brought  a few plants but all of excellent quality so besides the Forrest medal took the trophy for best Primula and a merit certificate for his large Androsace. These and some other plants also received  awards from  the joint rock committee but I don't have all the details.  Ian Kidman took the Diamond jubilee award for the best 6  small pans and the Henry Archibald Rose bowl for 3 pans different  genera in class 2.

Another of our friends from  Northern  England Lionel Clarkson won the Buchanan  memorial rose bowl  for class 1 with 6 large pans; one of these also received a merit cert. George Young  took the orchid  trophy with an Anacamptis. Back with Scottish growers Watt Russell won the trophy for a Scottish native plant with Paris quadrifolium, David & Stella Rankin won the William Buchanan Challenge cup for class 3:  3 plants new rare or difficult. Sue Simpson - Watt had a merit certificate  for a fine Lamium.

Two primulas were awarded certificates, one from  Graeme Butler and one from Henry & Margaret Taylor. In section 2 club treasurer Richard Green had the most points so won the Wilson trophy as well as a Bronze Medal.

Back in the open section I received  the Crawford challenge cup for most first points by bringing   most plants, the Don Stead prize for most bulbs and the Edward Darling  trophy for a group of rhododendrons.

I still don't understand merit certificates or the need for them.

Well done Richard Green!   Richard is the SRGC Treasurer - lovely to see him having success with his plants!
A goodly number of very fine plants there - seems to have been a nice distribution of the silverware around the exhibitors, too, which is good to see. You'll have the Edward Darling Trophy for the 3 rhodos, eh, Stan?  Well done to you and your heavily loaded vehicle!    ;D
And George Young will have won the most hideous trophy in the club for the  best orchidaceae!   Commemorating a  fine  person, in Charles M. Simpson but the trophy itself is  huge and  "nae bonnie" !!  :-X

Watt Russell's big pot of Paris is a corker - I remember Margaret and Henry  winning the Scottish Native plant class with a similar, if smaller pot, of that plant some years ago in Aberdeen. I hoped they would "forget" it when they left- but no such luck! ::)
