Quite possible Matt - just googled it and I see what you mean. It's from RHS lily group seed exchange about 10 years ago so I guess a misident or garden hybrid is possible.  Attached is a cropped version of the same photo, will try to get a better pic.

Don't know the name of this garden cultivar, but I am very fond of it.

Here is N.nevadensis I found in Spain, Tristan. You plant is very nice nonetheless and has a look of N. 'lobularis' about it (the Plantlist has it now as N. pseudonarcissus major)

N.bulbocodium 'Golden Bells Group'

Philip please, what defines 'Golden Bells Group?' It seems to me that there are so many forms now of N. bulbocodium that it's impossible to isolate most. I have great variation in every batch of seed I raise. This is probably because all are grown in a reasonably small area. I select any really nice forms and throw the rest into next door's paddock and thrown a bit of compost over them. There is a 2 metre wide strip between our fence and the rest of the paddock where cows graze and it is protected by an electric fence on their side so they can't graze over into my garden.

I've been able to keep var obesus and var citrinus true but most others vary from seed. I have one which a friend calls "Billy Bunter" (not registered) which has very small flowers but they are very fat. The foliage is no wider than a darning needle.

Lesley,I'm guessing it's as you describe.A seed raised strain,that's a bit variable.This one though is very vigorous and multiplies quickly.
