My snowdrop page is down
« on: December 20, 2015, 04:21:28 PM »
My web site snowdropinfo is down and the hosts, Heartinternet, will not release it so I can host it elsewhere. Looks like I'll will have to register a new name with another company and host it with them. Once I do that it's easy to upload to the new web site.

I'm thinking of initially having photos only and going for the name galanthusgallery.com

That's strange, Mark...what do they give as a reason?

Roland, FB is no host...that's just a website, you don't pay anything to rent webspace with them, so in the end they can do whatever they want, but a host should respect the rented space!

You are right about that , although they make money with all their advertisements

Maybe they prefer bigger customers as Mark and they stop with the smaller clients
It's just a thought

Hi Mark
Looked at one of your other websites (marksgardenplants) and noted that quite a few of the links had error 404: page not found.

Thought that I would mention it in case that you were not aware. I run a few websites for my other hobby and am always keen to have any errors reported to me.
Regards
Bob

Thanks but it looks like all my web sites will go under due to Heart Internet. If I knew how to host my own I would

Hi Mark
I use Easyspace at:  www.easyspace.com for my domain name registrations and web hosting.

Not had any problems. (Hope that I am not tempting fate.)

We (the Flemish rock garden society) use eurohost...never had any problems with them (apart from the downtime for maintenance). To host your own website, you need a server which is constantly running and has a stable connection to the internet...I think that can be quite costly, but Fred is more knowledgeable about that as the SRGC hosts their own website if I'm correct??

Yes, you would need a computer that is always on and awake and a fixed IP address.  You might have to pay your ISP a small premium for that; the norm is that you get a new IP address (from your ISP's pool) every time your router re-establishes the internet connection
Almost in Scotland.

Hi Mark,
I use Weebly for the Northern Ireland Daffodil Group site. Very easy to use and free depending on what you plan to add to it.
www.nidg.weebly.com
I tried a few different ones at first but found this the most straight forward.

Mark, You may have resolved this by now, but I use WordPress to host my blog/website.  You can use wordpress.com for free or you can pay for wordpress.org.

I think I'll do what Paddy suggested. Pay the ransom, buy a new name and redirect people
