I wonder if I was the first one to book, pay and get flight tickets this year?

News of a change to the DWE programme:

The Harold Esslemont Lecture:  due to unforeseen commitments Harry Jans  cannot  make the DWE this year.   David & Margaret Thorne  have stepped up to take his place.     The title of their talk is “Sikkim: the long route to Kanchenjunga”

David and Margaret are  popular Speakers and have great experience of travelling, often as Tour Leaders, to study plants in the wild.  8)

Problems with computer have led to loss of Photoshop thus the indifferent quality of these  snaps. Some winners have already been shown. For the sake of completeness  we start with David & Liz Livermore 's Correa which was one of their entries  that led to an SRGC Bronze medal. Christine Boulby's cyclamen  that won the East Lothian cup for the best plant in section 2 has already  been posted as have the Caudwell cut flowers that won the Wellstanlaw Cup. Show secretary David Millward's cyclamen  that  won the Jim Lever Memorial trophy has also been posted but is well worth repeating.  The JL Mowat trophy for the best conifer went to Lionel Clarkson who brought several fine little trees.

The McNaughton gentian The Caley which won a professional Forrest has  been shown already  It also received  an award at the Joint Rock committee as did another of their gentians of which more in a later post. This show used to be held in East Lothian and generous judging  allowed the  East Lothian Trophy for three alpines  to return there via myself along  with  the Peel trophy for 3 gentians, the Logan Home cup for a mini garden and the Mary Bowe trophy for bringing  most pots to the show.
I will try to solve computer probs. before posting any more snaps

Please may I echo Julia's comments above and add my thanks to Maggi for her efforts.  The Conference was magnificent, the lectures were of the very highest quality, the venue was exceptional and the organisation was perfect.  Many thanks and hearty congratulations to everyone involved.
