Hi
Lesley, I will cheer you up with some of your favourite daffodils - splits and doubles!!

You are so sweet to me Graham. :)

I understand the syndrome Graham, there's always something wonderful just on the other side of the fence. ;D I have been told that as we age, the desire to have "everything" within a genus, does fade and we are content with the several hundred already in our gardens. Not quite there yet.

Hi
A few more photos but of miniatures this time. Photos two and three are from our breeding down program. They are bred from parents that were standard sized 6Y-Y's flowers. The first has incredible texture and substance and that is because it has standard daffodils in its parentage.

...I have attached a photo of our N. hispanicus....
Graham,
the second type of "hispanicus" is now in flower! When I divided the clump I managed to leave all of the taller one (which flowered earlier) and these ones are the smaller ones which I replanted in a new raised bed,
cheers

Fermi
We don't have any N. hispanicus that have that such broad petals or that are that short. There is often great variation in the species and those who select them tend to pick them for good features such as nice broad petals. Rafa is the one who should be able to say whether he has has ever come across short ones with wide petals. On the photos I would suggest hybrids. Short stems suggest something with N. asturiensis in the breeding as it has good dwarfing characteristics whereas N. cyclamineus does not dwarf at all.

Hi Fermi
The cup looked familiar so I went into my photo library. I suspect it is either N. perez-chiscanoi or a hybrid of it.

Thanks, Graham,
I think a hybrid involving the two might be the answer!
Perhaps the taller one is the true species?'

PS that 6Y-W is pretty special!

After the feverish illness caused by all those splits, I'll bring a little sedateness to the thread with this little glory which I have as N. tazetta ssp patulus (or possibly ochroleucus), already posted a few days ago in the Southern Hemisphere thread.
