Where did that come from?
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:44:32 AM »
This thing has emerged in one of our troughts.
I 'sort of' recognize it but that is as far as I can get.
I'm sure we grew it deliberately at some time long ago.
HELP ???

That feathery style is a diagnostic, I think -  so a Bulbine  ....  off to check......

 Bulbine abyssinica perhaps?

It looks very much like bulbine glauca, in flower in my garden just now.

Is Bulbine glauca doing well for you in SW Scotland, Carolyn?

Not really! I always try to save seed (it doesn't set many) and also overwinter a pot of it in the unheated greenhouse. I don't think it appreciates the winter wet.

Thanks for the info, Carolyn.  Wondered if it was worth trying here  - getting too idle for too much cossetting of plants  - I'm learning to properly appreciate any "volunteers"  ::)

I don't do cossetting either! The bulbine gets slung under the staging and ignored all winter, with no water, along with the agapanthus.
