Arctic-Alpine Botanical Garden in Tromsø, Norway

A huge great idea to show us this garden, thanks very much! This is a real myth for alpine plants lovers.
I am very surprised to see plants flowering now with snowmelt in late april. Meconopsis quintuplinervia for example, it looks like it only needs one month there to really come out of the wintersleep to flowering stage.
They are just flowering in the garden here, and snow has disappeared a good  6 to 8 weeks ago at this place.
But Tromso must have daily almost 15 to 20 hours of light in may I guess, and this is litteraly bursting the plant round the clock.
I always wondered how they could adapt so well to that rythm, when coming from more southern places where there is much less day light in the growth period. Coming towards SW China high mountains for example near the tropic of cancer means probably not more than 14/15 hours of day in summer, and Tromso gets then soon 24hours of light!

This garden is one of the wonders of the world, I think.  Imagine seeing Cypripedium, Meconopsis and Tulipa all in flower together in July!!!!
Extraordinary - and my word- how beautiful is that Rhododendron camschaticum? Really a superb example.

Saxifraga aquatica. It was to early for the asiatic gentians, but all the plants looked very healthy. So I surely must visit that garden again at another time of the year. Monty Don was quite right when he said that this garden belongs to the top 5.

Maggi, indeed we enjoyed our short visit very much. We were doing a trip with a group from Trondheim,Mo i Rana, Svolvær, Tromsø  till Honningsvåg and then back to Rovaniemi. Then a flight to Brussels. So we stayed only one night in Tromso, but it was a beautiful night (the sun didn't go down).
