Index to worldwide locations featured in SRGC journals 1-119
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:42:57 PM »
I have quickly put together for my own use a rough index of the the 'travelogues' that appear in the jounals. Not every 'travelogue' article was read in detail...in most cases the references were taken from the Contents page. I used the CD of past journals kindly provided to members and have not bothered with the page numbers, simply journal numbers, as it is mostly obvious from the Contents page where the article is.

The index is in the form of a table in a Word document and is attached to this message. After all the cutting and pasting needed to put it in some reasonable order it may contain errors [more than likely!]  Definitely E&OE as I haven't time to go back and recheck the whole thing following the cutting and pasting exercise.... I'll spot the errors as I start to use it!

However some of you might find it of some value and if you send me corrections/additions I will update it and post these on the forum.

Well done and thank you Bill, and a warm welcome to the Forum. This will be very useful.

Hello, Bill, welcome and thank you! Glad to see we now have you safely arrived and operational, so to speak!!

Bill's index will be a most useful adjnuct to the main Journal Index :  :)
http://www.srgc.org.uk/index/SRGC%20Introduction%20&%20Index.pdf
where the index section "Places and Plant Hunting" covers pages  149 to 154.

Great scope here for easy access to references to particular areas.

Once again the SRGC is much obliged and deeply grateful to a volunteer Member for this effort to benefit us all. :-*

Hi Bill, welcome to the forum and thank you for this excellent addition.
I have just scanned down your index and hunted out Journal 93 for its article on Morocco ahead of our March trip. Very usefull.
Can I ask a special favour, please? Could you add a third column to your index giving the Roman volume numerals as printed on the spine of the journal? Personally, I hate these Roman numerals and welcome the way recent editors have included Arabic journal numbers to the spine but, unfortunatly, prior to the 1990's we are stuck with Roman. Such is life.

David, the volume numbers cited by Bill are the volumes as numbered on the CD of all Journals 1 to 113.... so no need for the Roman Numeral versions unless you are looking for the actual printed volume.  8)
For those using the actual Journals, you can find the conversion back to the original roman numeral listing in Glassford's conversion chart ... see here in the main SRGC site:
http://www.srgc.org.uk/index/Vol-Issue-Pages%20List.pdf      8)

Just a query Bill (he says as he backs away out of the line of fire), but would it possible (or practical) to do the same type of index for both the old and the new forum?

Cliff, I have no idea how Bill will react to your question... though I would not be surprised to hear he is lying down in a darkened room....
My question to you; why would anyone need to go to that length - and with all the thousands of posts it is a helluva length... when both Old and New versions of the Forum have a SEARCH facility????

My apologies Mrs. Y. ........ I comletely forgot the 'search' function!  Though 'Crete' brings up nearly as much CONcrete as beautiful island.
Sorry Bill....please enjoy your well-earned rest.

I shall crawl back under the nearest Ranunculus lyallii leaf and hibernate once again....
